Year 3

Welcome to the Lower Juniors! For Y3 children, this will be their first experience of a junior classroom where they will become more independent learners.

Y3A and Y3HT will both have PE on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, your child is to come to school in an outdoor PE kit:

Trainers
Navy or black jogging bottoms, leggings or shorts
White polo T-shirt
Navy jumper, cardigan or school logo sweatshirt/hoodie

SWIMMING

Swimming will begin on Monday 12th September. On Mondays until February half term, Y3HT will attend the 10am session, with Y3B’s session beginning at 10.40am.

READING

In LKS2, children are becoming more independent readers. However, children will still need to read and discuss the text with an adult on a regular basis to check understanding and improve skills. It is recommended that children read for 15-20 minutes daily.

Year 3 children will spend some lesson time exploring how to write comments.
PLEASE REFER TO THE VIPERS BOOKLET AND EXPLANATORY LETTER THAT YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE ALREADY BROUGHT HOME.

Year 3 reading structure: Your child should bring their reading book and comment book back to school every Thursday. On Friday, they will receive a new reading book and either a reading record card or their reading comment book. This will alternate on a weekly basis.

SPELLING

Spelling lists will be given every Friday. These can be

found in your child’s spelling book so they can remain at home for regular practice – short bursts are recommended. Children will need their books in school for the weekly test on Friday. Once per term, we will complete the rainbow test for the term. Please see the list attached for Autumn term.
