Science Statement of Intent
The teachers of St. James’ Catholic Primary School say…..
Science helps children develop key life skills, including an ability to communicate, remain organised and focused and form their own opinions based on observation, investigation and solving open-ended questions. We encourage the children to Science inspires children to follow in the footsteps of significant people in history and make a difference to the world. It encourages and develops an enquiring mind and the ability to ask and answer questions, creating awe and wonder about the world and environment around them.
Science allows children to investigate how things work and draw their own conclusions based on what they have found out. It develops skills and the ability to play key roles such as Predictor, Recorder, Fair Tester and Concluder, developing independence and resilience. It exposes children to the key issues happening around the world and has key links to other curriculum areas such as Geography and History, which have a direct impact on their lives.
Science gives children the opportunities to explore the outdoor learning environment first-hand and allows them to develop these opportunities through wider opportunities and extra-curricular activities. Science is inclusive for all and gives children of all abilities the chance to shine!
